The Michigan vs. Ohio Border Battle
By MGBRAugust 01, 2008
On July 31, 2008 the Michigan vs. Ohio Border Battle was hosted by the Michigan Girls Basketball Report (MGBR). Top players from both Michigan and Ohio went head to head in a competitive showcase format to essentially see who was the #1 state to demonstrate victory. It came down to the last round of games for Michigan to be crowned the winner. Michigan won 13 of the 24 games.
The Michigan vs. Ohio Border Battle has been tabbed by college coaches as being one of the top 2 events occuring in July. The event presented a 2 to 1 player to college coach ratio. Next year the event will be even stronger as some major plans are in the works to make the event even more special for the players and college coaches.
"This event helped Michigan players who were under the radar get some recognition. As a result, a lot of coaches know talent lies just about everywhere in Michigan, including the Upper Peninsula. Every year between 180 and 200 players from Michigan continue on to play basketball at various levels in college. So sometimes it just a matter of getting seen and that’s where this event, just as many other MGBR events come into play.
In 2009 the Michigan vs. Ohio Border Battle will return to the border, and the battle will be even more competitive. In 2009 I hope to get the Ohio Girls Basketball Report on board to do the event in conjunction with MGBR." -- A. Rainsberger, MGBR Director
