MGBR FAQs
GENERAL QUESTIONS
How do I register for an event? (Athlete)
To register for an MGBR event, athletes must create a free player recruiting profile/membership. Athletes will create their own user name and password. After creating the player membership, athletes can then sign into their account in the upper right hand corner of the website or at “Event Signup.” After a player signs into their account, a link will appear in the upper right hand corner of the website that says “Register for Events.” Click on the link and register for the event.
How do I register for an event? (Travel Team Coach)
Same as above but register for a "Team Coach" account.
How do I update my team information when I register for a tournament?
Sign-in and click on "Edit" in the upper right hand corner of the website. Proceed to update your team info and then click save. You should update your info prior to registering for any event.
I forgot my password or user name?
Your user name is always your full email address (i.e. Office@mgbr.org). If you forget your password, please click here to reset your password.
The website indicates my e-mail address is already being used and I can’t create a player profile? If your e-mail is already being used, then you already have an account. Please click here to reset your password associated with your e-mail address and get access to your account.
What is the player plus account?
The Player Plus account is a optional account upgrade from the free basic recruiting profile & membership account for prospective student-athletes. This upgrade was created to assist and provide student-athletes and their families with additional college resources, a online searchable college coach database, among other services a family can use to be proactive in throughout the recruiting process and save time. For additional information please click here.
If I attend an MGBR event am I guaranteed an athletic scholarship?
Simply attending an event guarantees you that you will be "evaluated" and "seen" by college coaches, not receive a scholarship to a college. MGBR is a platform for you to be exposed to college coaches. Each and every college coaching staff has different criteria for offering players scholarships and each college program has different recruiting needs each and every year. Earning a scholarship is based on your academic and athletic performances and how a college coaching staff evaluates your overall abilities.
Team Refund Policy: Are team registrations refundable?
All team fees are refundable 14 days prior to all events. To receive a refund teams must e-mail or send a letter of cancellation no later than 14 days prior to the event (office@mgbr.org). No refunds or credits will be granted for no-shows or if refund notification is received less than 14 days prior to the event. Event registrations are not transferable. All materials, schedules, printing and event preparations are done 14 days prior to all team events. All refunds are subject to a 5% merchant fee for online refunds.
RULES AND REGULATIONS
All MGBR events follow all guidelines, rules and
regulations that govern high school, amateur and collegiate athletics. This is to ensure that athlete’s eligibility is safe guarded, therefore
keeping the athlete the main focus of all MGBR events. All rules and
regulations in regards to the following governing bodies are strictly
followed by the Michigan Girls Basketball Report (MGBR).
- Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA)
- National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS)
- National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)
- National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA)
- Amateur Athletic Union (AAU)
SHOWCASE QUESTIONS
What makes this showcase different from other basketball showcases?
All MGBR showcases are NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Certified. This means that MGBR opts for a certification through the NCAA to have events in the state of Michigan that Division 1 college coaches are able to attend as well as Division 2, D3, NAIA D1 and D2 and junior college coaches. All MGBR events are done by a professional staff, organized and event materials to college coaches are of a high quality. Certified athletic trainers (*only NCAA certified events), top high school, college officials and coaches are used for all MGBR events.
Why should I attend and do I have to play travel basketball to attend?
Individual players attend showcases to gain additional exposure to colleges. Some players who attend showcases play on travel teams while others just play with their high school teams. All in all both groups attend for the same reason, college exposure and the chance to obtain a college scholarship, financial package or be offered a walk-on opportunity to play basketball at the next level.
How are teams chosen?
Players are put on equal teams based on information about the player such as position, strength of player and graduating class. We do our best to make equal teams based on the information we have and also prior talent evaluations of participating players from MGBR staff.
Why do players only get to play in three games at the showcase?
NCAA rules permit a maximum of 3 games during a 1 day period and no more than 5 games during a rolling 2 day period. Therefore a player can only play on 1 team to adhere to the 3 game rule by the NCAA. These rules are in place to help ensure the health and safety of all student-athletes at events.
What are the grade levels/ages that are accepted?
Each event page specifically notes what grades and ages are accepted. More info click here.
Individual Refund Policy: Is the showcase refundable?
The showcase is fully refundable 30 days prior to the event. Players requesting refunds less than 30 days prior to the event will be given a future credit for an MGBR individual event. To receive a future event credit players must e-mail or send a letter of cancellation and request the event credit no later than 14 days prior to the event. No refunds or credits will be granted for no-shows, late arrivals or requests for event credits less than 14 days prior to the event. Event registrations are not transferable. All materials, schedules, printing and event preparations are done 14 days prior to all individual events. All online refunds are subject to a 5% merchant fee for refunds.
Why don't players receive a jersey or shorts?
NCAA rules permit players to receive one (1) complimentary "tee-shirt" per event. Players will receive their tee-shirt at check-out at the conclusion of the showcase.
Who coaches teams for showcases?
MGBR uses a combination of top high school, top travel team coaches, x-college players, x-professional players and current college coaches to coach teams at showcase events. Due to NCAA rules colleges affiliated with the NCAA cannot coach at a NCAA certified event. Although, we do have several division 2 (NAIA) and junior college coaches who coach showcase teams at MGBR events as well as x-NCAA college coaches and players.
Are parents and coaches allowed to stay and watch?
Yes, parents can attend all MGBR showcases, workouts and camps as a spectator. Parents must refrain from making contact with college coaches and must follow all NCAA rules. If parents have questions during showcase events please feel free to speak with the team coach directly or event staff.
